Things are finally calming down now. It’s been a wind rush of a couple of months. I had been assisting a play called “Decision Height” for the past couple of months, moving into my new place finally and helping out some new friends as much as possible. But I’m finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. I’m taking the next couple of weeks to rest and get settled into my routine before I start adding crazy stuff to it. Right now though, I’m going to a couple of weekly meetups for coffee and play my first campaign of DnD. It’s been a lot of fun so far! In my DnD campaign (v5.0), I’m playing an Lawful Evil Beserker Dwarf hell bent on revenge. It’s not my usual type of character so it’s been an interesting stretch roleplaying him. But it’s fun.
I’m currently considering my depression in remission, even if that isn’t an official diagnosis. I’ve been generally happy for the past month or so. So happy that my friends have commented on it several times. I haven’t been this happy in a very long time. It’s so…surreal to not have regular episodes of depression like I used to have. I’m not saying it’s done and gone nor am I ignoring the possibility that it may come back with a vengeance. I suspect I’ll be battling it for the rest of my life. But for right now? It’s far in the background and I’m continuing to seek counseling for it. I’m just really grateful to the people I’ve been able to meet for being such great friends and their support.
I know that those who read this blog for a long time are probably not used to me being focused on a single genre like this for so long. It’s definitely not the usual modus operandi for me either, I don’t like focusing on a single genre in fear of making my reviews stale. But I’ve been sitting on these FPS reviews for so long that I decided they should be done in one shot as part catchup and part feature of what FPS titles I think are worth checking out. I’ve got….three or four more FPS titles to review and then I’ll be done with them for a while. I also am aware that my reviews on bigger AAA titles aren’t that popular but I haven’t really run into an indie FPS title worth playing. It’s a bit of an odd gap too while I’m thinking about it. Oh sure, there are several multiplayer FPS games from indie developers but nothing that I’ve noticed with a solid campaign. And to be frank, my plate is too full with SMITE, Overwatch, Duelyst and Paladins to really take a look at indie multiplayer FPSes.
I’ll try and keep a closer on that though. After the next couple of FPSes, I’ll be taking some hard looks at some indie titles I should have covered months/years ago. Then probably some RTS/4X titles to round out the year. I promised to cover more strategy games this year and boy did that plan not come to fruition. But I’ve got some months left, who knows, maybe things will change. For now, I’m focusing on keeping to my schedule and that’s been working out so far.
I’m continuing to make progress on the Witcher 3 campaign and I’m loving it so far. I’ve only gotten 15 hours into it but I feel like I’ve only scratched the surface and I’m really starting to delve into it now. This is looking like a favorite of mine the way its going. The excellent world building, open world design and combat system really makes for an enjoyable time.
I think it’s a good combo with my playthrough of Dark Souls II. Both have their own pros/cons that balance well with each other. With the Dark Souls II stream, I’m making it a goal to do it at least once a week but I’m shooting for 2-3 times a week. I need to build up my constitution for doing streams again so that’s why I’m ok with doing only once a week for the time being.
Well, that’s where things sit at on my end. I hope everyone else has had a good week. Now, time to get back to writing the next review.
