March has come and gone. Let’s see how things have weathered for the past month.
It was a dark and…well…not stormy night. But the weather keeps threatening it. Weird Oregon weather. Can’t make up its mind on whether it wants to rain. Or be sunny. So, I sit here, watching some Netflix and contemplating how March went overall. Time to make an update post on how things are.
A Paladin Without A Crusade
The blog had a decent amount of growth in March over February. This is the third month for consistent view growth since I “rebooted” the blog and I’m glad to see it. I published five Steam reviews, one silly video and six Journey Through Steam posts. The Journey posts have gotten a good amount of attention as well as the Cities: Skylines screenshot posts. Which is heartening to see as well. I don’t know if I’ll do anymore Skyline posts as I’ve been working on playing other to-review games. But, I wouldn’t count it out either. I’m thinking I’ll make it an occasional series to do on Sundays when I’ve got a bunch of screenshots taken for whatever game I’ve been playing. Anyway, most popular review from last month was the Overlord review. I also re-announced the System Shock 2 series which WILL be launching in April. At least, it better launch. Currently there’s art work that needs to be finished up.
- The Novelist
- Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons – Well, it was actually a reminder and format update.
- Skyward Collapse
- Overlord & Overlord Raising Hell
- Analogue: A Hate Story
All in all, I’m feeling good about my work on this blog and am excited to get my YouTube channel back up and running again. I’ve got reviews completed or nearly complete that I really want to publish next month. After YouTube starts up again, I’m hoping to implement some ideas on getting more traffic towards the blog. The only thing I want to fix before I do that is finally fixing up my “About Me” page. It’s still out of date. I’m happy. I still have ups and downs but overall I’m happy with how this project continues to unfold.
Side note, been debating a Facebook page for A Paladin Without A Crusade. A way for Facebookers to follow its activities without having to suffer through TLW Tech or other posts. Or suffer through the fact that I’m really stingy with friend requests on my personal account. I’m happy with G+’s performance. It still remains A Paladin’s best resource as a social network right now. However, Facebook has shown 0 signs of dying off like I had hoped. I’m pretty sure I’ve made my disdain for the social network known. I don’t like it. In many cases, I hate it and their business model. I only use it for TLW Tech and because some people won’t leave it. But I can’t deny that people still use it and show no sign of not using it. I dunno, I’m still debating it. Even if a page were created, it would not have any exclusive content/posts/bull that I notice other businesses pull.
TLW Tech Services:
I’m a little less happy with TLW. Traction continues to be poor. I haven’t really figured out a new advertising angle yet but I’ve got some leads left to work on. I did have a new customer this past week so I’m hoping that’s a sign that business is finally out of its cold spell. I did get a new sign for my car though! From Vistaprint. I haven’t really decided if I’m going to add anything to the car’s sides yet.
I have been working on my technical repair skills though. I tried repairing my old S3 and that wasn’t a complete bust. It just requires an expensive part I’m not really willing to put money on for a side repair project. I really want to learn how to repair iPhone/iPad/Tablet screens because that’s got a high amount of demand. But, the minimum cost to do that would be $150. (Buy a broken screen device and then a new screen to learn with). Let’s be real, it’d probably cost upwards of $300-500 to really learn this kind of skill and know it. I don’t exactly have that kind of money just…lying around…understandably. I don’t want to experiment on someone’s personal device. Knowing my luck, that would end badly. So, I’m sitting on it. Thinking about it. I am most definitely not asking for money on this. That wouldn’t sit well with me if I got donations for that kind of project.
In the mean time, I’ve been posting more on the Facebook & Google+ pages. Keeping activity up and making sure people don’t think I’ve quit the project. I didn’t post all that much last year so I’ve been working on making sure I do it this time.
Other Personal Items:
But really, what continues to cause a lot of personal….angst…is my job search. Lots of applications sent out this month, a couple of interviews in person and over the phone but I get nothing. Tis not fun but at least it’s regular and expected. I’ve got a few leads I need to look into. I’m being intentionally vague because I do not like talking about my job(s) on this blog. I’m ok with talking about my businesses but not that. It seems to cause a lot more unnecessary drama
Last month I said this:
Other thing I want to work on this month is being more sociable. I’m currently pretty bad on both the Social Media and in person fronts. I don’t really have any real solutions on how I’m going to fix this….but I’m going to be more….what’s the word…cognizant? Yea, that’s the word. Cognizant of opportunities to be social. We’ll see how that works out.
Well, I tried this month. I found a group of people on Meetup.com that do a regular night of board gaming. The first night was fun and it was nice to meet other people. About 10 or so people if I’m remembering correctly. Hoping to do more of those this month. I’ve also been hiking with family and a few other things. It’s a start and for me, it’s a pretty good start. I don’t really have any other goals I want to make this month other than continuing to improve on that, my businesses and possibly getting some sort of part-time work soon.
My car broke down earlier this month. The A/C compressor seized in my car. Not bypassable. Pretty much asked for that to happen when I bought such an old car. Didn’t I. Oh well, roll the dice and they didn’t work in my favor. Blegh. That’s all I can say. Blegh. I’m managing though, it’ll just be another expense to deal with.
As always, the support of my family, friends and readers is very appreciated. I’d rate March as a pretty good month despite some frustrations. As long as I keep working at it, I’m hopeful things will work out in the end.
