Merry Christmas everyone! I hope it’s going well for you so here’s an update to talk about the website, what’s coming up this month and a few other things.
I talked a little while ago that I was going to completely rebuild the website with a new theme. Well, as you can probably tell, that didn’t happen. It wasn’t out of laziness, I really did try a couple of other themes. But the lack of customization or quirky problems I ran into made me rethink my decision. So, I dug into Tempera’s settings to change everything to how I want and I think I’ve got it where I want it. There’s a lot more room for me to fiddle with and having the two sidebars is a nice addition. I changed the background to a light grey to make reading easier on the eyes. I also added supporter & follower links to the left. On the right side will be recent posts/comments, featured items and more site-important features. The biggest change is the menu up above. I’ve now got all my categories organized in a manner that makes sense so you can easily find posts. All in all, I’m really happy with how everything is sitting now. The only thing I really need to work on is the “About” page and then it’ll all be good. Oh and the front page has been scaled back into its current form until what I want to do with it. It previously featured “important” links before.
If you have any suggestions for the blog, let me know.
For once, the long silence on the blog was planned for. I wrote the Metro: Last Light review knowing that November and December was going to keep me busy. As such, LL was a send off of 2014 and a hopeful indication of what’s to come in 2015. Speaking of what’s to come, I’m hoping to publish my Favorite/Least Favorite lists of 2014 sometime in the next couple of weeks. Afterwards, I’ll publish a summary of the year in review to finish up 2014.
The work on my top favorite/least favorite games of 2014 lists is coming along. One major change to the Least Favorite list is that it will now only talk about games I personally played this past year. I drew controversy for talking about games last year that I hadn’t played directly, blasting business models and poor decision making. People disagreed that those games should have even been on the list. Vehemently. This change actually has nothing to do with that controversy. It has to do with glut of games on Greenlight & Early Access this year. If I talked about every game I took issue with this year, the list would be a mile long. So, I’m restricting it to keep it short and my sanity in check.
Bit of an aside but, I still wanted to talk (aka: rant) about my issues with publishers like EA & Ubisoft & Deep Silver in the least favorite post, something like a “dishonorable mention” at the end of it. Sort of sum up my feelings of them. But, as I sat and thought about it, I realized it was too easy. It’s too easy to say: “Ubisoft continues to learn nothing from previous mistakes or entries in their series and repeat the same mistake over and over again”. It doesn’t add anything really all that meaningful to the list, it doesn’t change what happened this past year and while the least favorite is something of a venting post, that doesn’t excuse cheap shots like what I was thinking. So, I won’t. I’ll strictly keep to the games I didn’t like this year and keep the “politics” out of it. Same goes for the Favorite list.
So, there’s content on the horizon! I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Thanks for reading!
