A Paladin’s Move: Moving is Exhausting but I’m Back Blogging…

The continued trend of featuring our pets in photos continues at the top of these posts. Actually, this is how I intend to do photo sharing on the blog from now on. If it isn't under a Creative Commons license or owned by myself, I'm not going to use it here.

Man, I shudder to think of what my 2013 end-of-the-year reflection is going to read like. Between what happened in January, College and this move…. Moving….well, let’s just be honest and say it. It’s a pain in the ass. Emotions ran high while we moved our family’s place of permanent residence for 30 years from Tillamook OR to Cornelius OR. It was not without it’s teeth-grinding, back-breaking and stressful moments. I had even been warned that it wasn’t going to be easy…but you really don’t get it until you move yourself. The pets were stressed as well but I think they’ve mostly acclimated to their new environment now. If they’d just quit destroying everything that looked new, we’d be fine. >_> There’s a lot I could talk about but really, I’m not sure what I should talk about that would even be interesting enough to you without proper context. It was a lot of hard work and there’s still a lot of work to be done before we’re officially “moved in” as it were. I think it’ll be a great place for my Mother to live in once she’s settled. As for myself, I’m only here temporarily until I can afford my own place. Too bad it won’t be nearly as nice. The work goes on though. Between my contract job, my online projects and this move, I really don’t have a lot of free time right now. Speaking of contract job…

My new contract job started this past Thursday and it’s going well. I’m basically replacing old machines setting up 200+ new HP enterprise desktops. It’s a lot of work that I need to get through but I’m having fun. Also, I had a job for my business earlier today so that’s still going as well. I have a few ideas planned for Tim’s Computer Services but am waiting on a few things to be finished by other people before I implement them. The expansion into the Portland area is still “unofficial” so I haven’t had any calls out here. It will remain unofficial until the near end of my contract job. My schedule is a little too limited right now to be doing both.

My new PC setup. Still a work-in-progress. I think I need shelves or something, I haven't decided yet.

naively thought I’d have time to work on the blog in my off time but I was so exhausted and out of it that tonight is the first night in the past week that I’ve worked on it. I did think about what to do and have some new ideas for the review series. I really should just sit down and do it. At this point, I have no excuses, it’s just procrastination. I want to do at least one more by the end of the year because this blog has epically failed at being a reviewing platform like I had originally intended. I’ve published a total of 1 this entire year. That’s unacceptable and I hope to fix that but who knows when. I’m so busy…

Bonus: I have a new desk and setup to accommodate a more comfortable typing environment. My previous “desk” had my arms at an upward angle and that wasn’t exactly comfortable for long-term typing. This table is a lot better, letting me keep my arms straight and gives me plenty of leg room. The only thing I’m missing now is more space to work >_<. My Linux and PC rigs are setup on this long table though I may move them underneath to give me more space. I think I’ll do that after I do some rewiring on the motherboards. They’re kind of a mess and I’ve learned a few new tricks looking inside some recent desktops to improve my wiring job. Plus, I put a new hardrive in my new PC and that really messed up the wiring. Another bonus? My PC runs extremely quiet now. The room’s size and the heating of the house keeps it so that the room doesn’t get too hot, even when the door is closed. That’s a great feature of this house. It probably also helped that I cleaned out a lot of a lot of dust in the machine after I moved >_<. My room is still a mess but I’m starting to like this new setup. Now, if I could only add more hours in the day to get everything done.
