Hello all, keeping busy as per usual. Currently inside avoiding the ridiculous storm going on outside while listening to BadAss Boss Themes from OCRemix. I’ve had an interview for a rather promising job in Portland as well as two jobs for my personal business since we last chatted. So, I wanted to talk about my conclusions that I’ve come to since my previous posting as well as talk about my gaming schedule for the Winter term.
I had quite a bit of feedback on the job front and I thank everyone that sent their comments to me. It ranged from “you should go for it” to optimistic caution and I’m grateful for all of it. I sat down after that post and thought about it for a while longer and decided that I’d keep pushing it forward, but at a slow and steady pace. If my job interviews don’t pan out and I’m still without a job in a couple months, then I’ll push hard on my business on getting it up and running at full steam. For now, it’s side jobs to help pay my bills. There are two reasons for this. One, I’ve got Student Loans to pay in five months or so. These are unavoidable and while the UK gives their students time until they’re generating a certain amount of money every month, the US is not nearly so kind. We have to start paying up in a certain amount of time or we get very annoyed loan people coming to our doors, wondering where their money is. Getting a small business like this up and running without any venture capital is risky enough as it is but to have upcoming loans on top of that? Yeah, it’s not a good thing. It would only work out if I got extremely lucky and considering my past luck, well, that would be a stupid bet to take. Other reason is just that I need a steady inflow of income until I can get my debts settled and I’m back on my feet, financially speaking. That’s pretty self explanatory.
That said, even if I do get a job, I don’t think I’ll be giving up my dream of creating my own business. One day, I’ll start it back up because it’s pretty clear there is a demand for it. I dunno when or where it’ll happen, it’s entirely up in the air at this point but I’m not going to drop it, for now. So, the plan at this point is to continue pushing both resumes for potential jobs as well as continuing to do cheap but targeted advertising in the local area. This isn’t just Tillamook I’m targeting but the entire Northwest coast of Oregon, if I can at any rate :). Maybe even the Portland area, who knows. I’m keeping it flexible right now. Still need to come up with a better name too….ideas?
Oh and before I forget, I’ve had two jobs for my business now and they’ve gone very well. Which makes me pretty darn happy. I’m still waiting to hear back from another one and I’ve gotten a few leads on where I can go to advertise so I’m glad about that. I’ve also pushed up my rates to better match the level of service I’m giving out. But so far, the business is going well. Going a lot better than ALT had but then, I didn’t have a clue of what I was doing. Well, ok, I still don’t but I’m much better off than I was.
The job that I got interviewed I’m keeping under wraps until I hear yes/no back from them on it. They kept the job offer discrete so I’m keeping their name discrete out of respect for their wishes. I’ve sent out several more resumes to potential jobs but haven’t heard back from them just yet. Granted, it’s the weekend so I probably won’t hear back from them till next week. I’m going to be heading out to a friend’s place next week to hang out so you might just see some ridiculous cute cat photos when I get back. I don’t know why, but this couple has one of the most ridiculous cute cats I’ve ever seen. I’m not sure even Reggie, if she was still around, could have held the cuteness as long as this one has.
My gaming schedule is as such for the Winter weeks ahead. I’m finally going to tackle the System Shock series of games head on. They’ll be my main focus for the next couple months as I get through them. Once I finish System Shock 1, I’ll be co-oping System Shock 2 with Moonshine Fox to finish out the series. (We’ve already tried and it worked well). After the System Shock series, I’m going to finally going to quit wussing out and tackle Amnesia: The Dark Descent and finally conquer my fear of that game, even if it is entirely justified… Why am I tackling three very creepy games all in a row during the darkest time of year? I’m a sucker for punishment, apparently. Amnesia has been staring at me for over a year and I figured it was about time I finished it. On the side, I’ll be playing the Witcher 2 every now and then. I have no plans of playing Multiplayer games for the foreseeable future unfortunately. Between my job search, my Internet projects and several moving projects upcoming, I simply don’t have the time to dedicate to a particular game. It’s unfortunate, but it’s the reality. I’m already having to reschedule Gareth and Daniel several times to run our projects so I don’t want to add to it. Doesn’t make me happy though. I’ve been out of the MP scene for several years now and I badly miss it…
