A Paladin’s Job: Still Looking Through The Postings…

Wish I could actually relax like those two brothers but I got lots to do. Another garage/estate sale has come and gone. We sold quite a lot of stuff overall but this past weekend wasn’t as great as we would have liked. Weather and maybe bad timing gave us a pretty limited amount of traffic with Sunday being a complete dud. Still, we moved some stuff out so we don’t have to deal with it, so that’s something at least. The first sale went a lot better. We have a lot of stuff that we’ll have to either donate, recycle or throw in the dump. Unfortunately, I expect we’ll be making a lot of trips to the dump. But that’s all we can do at this point. So that’ll be what I’m doing when I’m not looking for a job or working on Internet projects. Goody…

The job search is still ongoing but that really shouldn’t be a surprise to you. In this job market, I’m in a pretty difficult situation. I still lack experience that makes me very attractive to companies, even with the one IT job under my belt now. But, I have something that I didn’t have before: professional recommendation letters. Oh and I know how to actually make cover letters. Only took me 24 years to figure that out >_<. I’ve been requesting letters of recommendation or LinkedIn recommendations for my previous job and they’re starting to come in now. I think this will really help me with finding a job more than anything else. Well, that’s what I’m hoping at any rate. So, between that and working on adding those to my LinkedIn profile (as well as  improving it), I’ve been getting a lot of work done on the job front. Just wish I had something solid. My local job advertisement will be going out today so it’ll be interesting to see if I get any bites on it this week.

Serious Sam II

Gaming wise, I haven’t had a lot of time to game but what I’ve been playing was Serious Sam 2. Bit of a weird game when you compare it to the rest of the Serious Sam series. It’s almost overly colorful with vehicle sections, bizarre weapons and even more bizarre enemies. The enemies are much more “cuddly” in appearance than in previous games or in games since. It’s really hard to believe that the same dev team made this game because it feels like a big departure from…well, any of them really. What’s even more disappointing is that despite the new and ridiculous looking weapons, they have to be the weakest implementation in the entire series. They have very little impact and don’t give you a lot of feedback. Killing enemies is pretty unsatisfying as well. For a game devoted entirely to killing tons of enemies, that has to be the worst mistake they made when they created SS2. I’m glad they didn’t continue going down this route with SS3 because that would have been difficult to deal with. I like that they took a leap and went a different direction, but the final product leaves a lot to be desired.

I’m writing this before I record a podcast with Daniel V for TeknoCratik today. We’ll be talking about smartphones and their future as well as what we’ve been up to. I’m really glad we can get TeknoCratik rolling again. I’ll share it here when it’s up on the Interwebs for your enjoyment.

Until next time…
