Just pushing out a quick post before I go to sleep. I wrote a good chunk of this post on Google+ which was only intended to be a quick post and then sleep. But, then it turned into something rather long so I decided to throw it up on WordPress as well. I’m weird like this ok? 😉
A very busy day today. We’re getting prepped for our estate sale tomorrow and that’s taken up the majority of my day. But we’re nearly ready for tomorrow. Will have to get up early and work on a few things (pricing, moving tables, etc). I didn’t get to my Update video or
my next blog post (this is clearly a lie as I’m writing one right now) because I was just too dang tired to do anything good. I got some work done on the video and I have a good idea of what I’m going to talk about but it’s missing my talking about what’s next. No ETA but trying for tomorrow (after the sale).
Took out a 500GB 7200RPM Seagate hardrive from my brother’s old machine today. The desktop was a cheaply built machine five years ago and it hasn’t survived well. I got a call about it months ago from my brother and after talking to him about it, we determined that it was finally dead. The Motherboard was beeping a code to indicate that the CPU had died. So, I had him get a nice and not-cheap laptop from a business I had confidence wouldn’t intentionally screw my brother with some cheap POS. Unlike the last guy he bought this computer from. It’s a long story, maybe I’ll talk about it some other time.
I took the HDD and ran it through a few pre-windows-boot virus tests. Then, I wiped it. Getting the cords to fit in the case with the new HDD was a pain in the butt and I’m going to have to go back in and redo the wiring sometime down the road. As far as it being a Seagate HDD, I don’t really have any opinions on Seagate. But they always seems to come with cheap computers and that gives me a biased opinion about the company probably. I usually get Western Digital. That said, I think it’s good that I can personally test out a Seagate HDD for myself. I’ll be using it for storage of RAW and .AVI video files for the YouTube channel. Those take up a ridiculous amount of space on my current 1TB drive. Which makes things cramped with other files I have stored on there (music, videos, other media files and archives) so I need the extra space when I get my channel rolling again. I’m keeping my brother’s desktop as a possible server station in the future. The case, while cheap, is big and airy. Buy a few 120mm fans and I think it could run cool and quiet. I’ll have to replace the CPU, MB (it’s cheapskate POS) and probably the RAM and PSU but I think I can make it work again one day. Huh, that’s right, still have a spare GPU I could put in it…
Job search is going very slowly due to the garage sale but once it’s past, I’ll start picking it up again. I’ve had a phone call interview a couple days ago and more emails getting back to me on resumes (50% interest and 50% rejection). So it’s still moving, even if I still don’t have a job. But I’m also taking things into my own hands. I submitted an ad in the local advertising service, called the Tillamook Shopper, (which reaches most of Tillamook county), to see if there is any interest in another computer repair service run by myself. I figure, if people aren’t interested then I’m out a few dollars and it’s no biggie. If there is, then I can do some jobs and get moving forward with my own business. It’s just another option I’m trying. I’ve had interest in the past from other people to do something like this in the area.
Anyway, just feel like sharing that tonight so gn all and I’ll see you tomorrow. Until then…
