My Life Musings…

Some good news this week as I saw my grades and found that I had passed my previous term of college. Think I mentioned (multiple times) on the blog that I was pretty nervous about my prospects. Well, maybe not so much nervous as pretty sure I wasn’t going to make it. Well, I’m glad to be wrong in this case. Passing this term also got rid of the “if you fail again, the college and you are going to have words” meeting. Or I guess I should say I’m no longer on probation. I think that’s what they call it. I can’t remember and I’m not going to go looking for that email. Whatever it is, I’m just glad to no longer have it floating over my head. I’m glad to have passed. I hope it will make the difference next term. I could really do with less of the emotional rollercoaster ride that has been this previous term. It’s really draining. But then again, I guess it’s not all of my fault, now is it. Oh well. Here’s to a better term. My new series has been launched today: Shattered Haven by Arcen Games. Shattered Haven is an environmental 16-bit puzzle game with horror and survival elements as well. I’m really quite happy to get this one launched. Amusingly, this one took several tries and retakes to get recorded. I don’t know why, but my English just flew out the window when I tried to record this game. It was really bad. I had to scrap two fully recorded episodes before I was finally happy with the final product as you can see down here. I hope you enjoy! This will be an ongoing series with a similar frequency to Cthulhu Saves The World. I will be talking about the schedule for the channel soon. http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLNshVYBDrnPLaR-8Cn-JfSRL0Svf9IW7q

Tech and Gaming News To Talk About…

Age of Wonders 3Age of Wonders III was announced recently and there has been some pre-alpha footage unleashed to our hungry eyes. I want, want, WANT this game out. Right now. No excuses. Gimme. ;). For those of you that don’t know what Age of Wonders is…it’s sort of a combination of RTS, turn-based strategy and RPG elements all rolled into one very expanded fantasy universe. I’ve been able to play Shadow Magic with friends of mine recently and it’s been a ton of fun. It looks like these devs are doing right by the series and I look forward to seeing more about this game in the future. It’s interesting to see them using group mechanics for the units as well. I’ve seen a number of RTSes use that mechanic but it has never felt very good. But hey, maybe they can pull it off? I guess we’ll find out. Go and watch the gameplay footage if you have any interest at all in RTS gameplay. This game looks to be very promising. Flipboard was updated to version 2.0 on iOS devices with Android versions coming very soon. It comes with the ability to create your own magazines as a sort of “for later” feature or to share content to other people. It also comes with a host of improvements, bug fixes and speed improvements. Plus, a bookmarklet for browsers to add content to your magazine from the desktop. It’s a really cool update and one that threatens to move me over from Google Reader, but I’m still not sure if I will or not. The mobile limitation is it’s biggest problem I have with it. I’ve created three magazines just to play around with the new feature. They are all publicly available to subscribe to so if you want to, you can either go to this link or search “A Paladin” or “KingIsaacLinksr” to see the magazines I’ve got created so far. I think it’s pretty neat. Not sure how useful I’ll find it but I’m going to continue playing around with it. Sega offered a half-hearted definitely non-apology for a massive takedown on YouTube vids and channels for anything related to the Shining Force game series. However, while they claim that everything is “solved”, I’ve heard that they have only fixed the problem with a couple YouTube channels and many more still remain banned from YouTube. It’s really a PR move to try to get the complaints off of them and it isn’t working. My ban on SEGA still remains and I’ll be talking more about this in the near future.

Cool Videos To Watch…

LaserFrog has an amusing retrospective on a videogame. You’ll have to watch for yourself ;). http://youtu.be/-wlq8vN4_Hk DYKGaming is becoming one of my favorite gaming channels, that’s for sure. Now they’ve got an Easter Egg Hunt series for finding all those little secrets in videogames. Check this one out on Metal Gear Solid: http://youtu.be/RqKFtzkMW2s MoonshineFox has a very amusing video with Mass Effect EP 14 – “What’s your quest?”. Also, it has the most French guy in the entire series. Enjoy. http://youtu.be/2L6UYahfYSk Until next time, I hope you enjoyed this post!
