King’s Personal Musing 3/25/13: Lots of Photos to See, Frozen Endzone Discussed and more…

I muse about Frozen Endzone, the plentiful amount of great photos taken this past weekend, Magicka: Wizard Wars and more in this post by yours truly…

My Life Musings…

Well, it was a very busy and productive weekend for me these past few days. So, I’ve been keeping myself busy when I really should be resting. Idk, I guess I just feel like being this busy right now. Plus, I’m happy doing this stuff. But it wasn’t all hard work, my brother, his girlfriend and I went out to hike up a really steep cliff I mean path this weekend. You’ll get to see a photo of them two down below too. I didn’t think it would be so difficult when he asked if I wanted to come along but it was really exhausting. Still a bit stiff from the workout of going up that steep .61 mile climb today…ergh. But it was nice to get out for a bit and hang out. The house is really quiet now. There are still a few people here but not as many as usual. So it just feels odd. I’ve also been taking some walks around Eugene, enjoying the pretty nice weather. So, all in all, a great weekend. I could use a lot more of those weekends in the future…

Here, a photo of me with them.

(Lots of me being geeky right here. If you’re not interested in reading it, scroll down past the vids to see the photos. There are some really good ones). Most of my attention this past weekend was on the channel. I got a lot of content recorded. Portal 2, Shattered Haven, Cthulhu Saves The World and FTL: Faster Than Light all got recorded. Even some of the art assets got created. Plus, I upgraded to YouTube One Channel, added a new logo and also added the same logo to the blog. I’m really liking the new logo which you can see up above at the top. It took some work and effort to get it done in GIMP 2.8 but I felt it was worth it :).

The blog also got some attention with tweaks here and there. I also got some posts shared on a couple more sites. My goal with the blog lately has been to get more eyes looking over my reviews without being a total spam about it. I hate it when other people do that so I’m trying to avoid the same thing. Which is a really difficult thing to balance. I feel that my review style could use more looks at it, if I want my writing style to improve. And it was really nerve wracking for me to do that as I don’t have the greatest self-confidence in the world. So far, it’s worked out rather well. I got a couple positive comments as well as one very constructive and awesome comment about it. It’s really rare to get those kind of comments so I always appreciate getting them. Combine that with the awesome amount of content I’ve got prepped for the channel and I’m exceedingly happy with how this past weekend went. I could really use more weekends like this one…

On a side note, I’m planning on getting a trailer for unsubscribed viewers up sometime this week. I just haven’t nailed down the right idea for one. I am also no longer going to do trailers for new series because….I feel it’s a waste of my time. I had some pretty cool ideas for trailers but I fail to see the point in doing them when I could spend the same time creating actual interesting content. So all my creative energies will focus on the one trailer and everything else instead. Also, I’m announcing that I’m doing two new series: FTL: Faster Than Light and Shattered Haven. Those will be coming soon, if not this week. I’m rather happy with how they have started too. I do not have a set schedule for all of these series just yet but it will be something I’m going to have figured out by the end of the week.

Also, if you missed it, I published three episodes of Portal 2 and one episode of Cthulhu Saves The World. I don’t plan on doing three episodes of Portal 2 in a single weekend anytime soon. I just wanted to finish up the main campaign and advanced levels (yet to be published) this weekend in prep for the Workshop adventures. Which I am looking forward to sharing those episodes as they are already off to an awesome start. We recorded them this past weekend :). So enjoy the following episodes. In Cthulhu, a third member joins our party and in Portal 2 we complete chapter 5 and save science! I’m also a bit of a jerk to Gareth in the first video. It’s hilarious though. 😛

Tech and Gaming News To Talk About…

Frozen Endzone is a game that was announced by Mode 7 Games last week. It’s a tactical future sports turn-based game. It looks like they’re taking what they learned from Frozen Synapse and combine it with a bit of football. That’s just my impression from the trailer though. It will be launching in 2014 with a beta sometime this year. It will come with a full single player campaign and multiplayer mode. Your objective is to get a ball into your opponent’s endzone through a randomly generated terrain level. My interest is piqued even if this genre is outside of my usual tastes. If nothing else, this just means more awesome music from nervous_testpilot in the future ;). But seriously, I’d like to try one out when it gets fully released. The futuristic scifi setting, the awesome music and a different take on turn-based strategy gives me a lot of good feelings about the game. And considering the developer it comes from, I have little doubt they will be able to do something really great here.  So I’ll be keeping my eyes on it. While Mode 7 Games didn’t have to through Greenlight to get this game on Steam, it is currently being put through the approval process. The reasons stated was that they wanted to get feedback directly from the players before the game launched. If nothing else, Greenlight is really good for that sort of thing. I have little doubt this game will be approved pretty quickly. So go check out the Greenlight page if you want a closer look at this game.

Wizard WarsI guess I shouldn’t be surprised that Magicka: Wizard Wars would be the next game to come out of the Magicka license. I mean, a competitive, twitch-based PVP title that puts two teams of wizards against each other? Where you can “accidentally” cause one of your teammates to explode? Where different combinations of spells will cause ridiculous situations to happen? Where chaos and insanity will likely reign? And friendships will likely be ruined? Heck yeah, Paradox was going to make this game. It was inevitable really. You really should watch the official trailer, it’s an amusing spoof on the Game of Thrones. All I can really say is that this game was not announced sooner and Paradox should be ashamed about that. This should be a very amusing game whenever it gets released. Which the trailer/website was very unspecific on. Go check out the website where you can subscribe to keep up on the latest news surrounding this game.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown was also announced to be coming to the iPhone and iPad later this summer. It shouldn’t be too difficult for the game to get a full port as a lot of the UI was pretty touch friendly already. I doubt I’ll pick it up and it is a pity that it won’t be coming to Android at the moment but hey, what can you do…

Photos To See…

Wow, people really knocked it out of the park this last weekend with the photos shared. Even I did. Talk about really surprising. So plenty of good photos to see below. Enjoy!

Umm…whoops.

When signs go very, very wrong.

This made me laugh

Pathetic look from manure roller. Silly dog!

Someone isn’t very happy with getting cleaned. My dog never liked getting cleaned either but he would try and eat the soap……

Sometimes life is tough when you're a dog.

Another puppy who looks rather unhappy.

Liked how well this picture of mine turned out.

I think this is the most popular photo I’ve ever uploaded to Facebook. It has 25+ likes. Wow. Anyway, that’s my brother and his GF “on top of the world”, Spencer’s Butte.

Pico waits in the tree for Mexican food. Lol

Someone is looking to pounce for food, up in that tree…

Oh yeah! Here we go'

Good day to take a lunch break walk!

And another great looking photo.

Not sure what kind of flower this is but it looks good.

Audio of Note…

While photo sharing was quite awesome this past weekend…audio, sadly, was not. I’m going to be working on expanding my selection as soon as I can. Just so busy.

Cool Videos To Watch…

Cereal really shouldn’t be this cool, but Chex Quest, a doom-clone, is actually pretty neat. Check out LGR’s review on the old DOS game…

Watch this video on the Prince Rupert’s Drop (or exploding glass) being filmed at 130,000 fps. I thought it was really cool myself.

Transistor, the game being developed by the same devs behind Bastion, has caught my attention because it looks really good. And they’re still a year out from releasing the game too which is even more impressive.

Hope you enjoyed this post and until next time…
