King’s Personal Musing 3/15/13: Preparing For Finals before Google Reader’s Shutdown and more…

Been playing a little Defense Grid again this week…I prepare for finals before Google Reader shuts down forever…

My Life Musings…

Hey, a clever title. What do you know. 😉 Yeah, it’s been dead week as I’ve mentioned before and I guess its now officially Final’s week. So it will be one long weekend of my preparing for it. I haven’t been doing much else but education for the past week and just keeping things calm. Due to finals and all the fun studying I have to do, I’ll only be publishing a Portal 2 video tomorrow since that was already completed last weekend and won’t take much to get online. I’m only doing this Personal Musing before the finals are over with so I can stay focused on what I need to do. So, I’ll see you all Wednesday. I’m…not sure what my emotions are in regard to finals this time around. I’m certainly not a wreck like I was last time around though so I guess that’s good. But I’m worried/nervous/idk about my prospects. Gah, I’m so tired of College if I’m being honest. That’s not really surprising though…having been in the college system for about five years now. But, I’ve got to see this through so here goes. Wish me luck.

Tech and Gaming News To Talk About…

I’ve been hearing and reading information about the latest Samsung Galaxy S4 and it seems to be largely iterative. It has improved specs with a whole bunch of new software to enhance the device. And Samsung seems to be on this Apple-like-kick with how they presented the device. It’s now only available in black and white colors and it looks very similar to the previous generation. That said, I didn’t have any plans on getting it for my next smartphone and nothing they showed off told me I had to have the phone. Sure, it would be nice to have it don’t get me wrong but its not necessary. It will be interesting to see how well HTC does with its One compared to this iterative update now.

Google announced via their blog that they are shutting down Google Reader permanently in three months. They stated that the usage of Google Reader has been declining and the company wanted to focus on making fewer products better. They’re giving users three months to find alternatives so that’s something. I was rather angry to hear this news. Of all the services I use on a constant basis, Google Reader is the one I use most often. It helps me keep track of so many different websites on a daily basis. So, replacing it will be difficult. I’m glad I got three months to find an alternative because I’m not sure what I’m going to do now. A lot of petitions have been created to bring back Reader but I think Google knew full well the reaction they were going to get from shutting it down. They aren’t going to bring it back. At least, I would be amazed if they did. Unfortunately, RSS is becoming less popular in the face of Twitter and Facebook (that concerns me greatly I might add). I still question whether it was such a smart decision though. Even if the service cost them some money, surely the traffic and data they got from Reader was more than enough to make up for it. I don’t know. It sucks losing Greader. But maybe something better will come from this. One can only hope.

Photos To See…

A sure sign of Spring is all the new flowers that are growing.

Come on, you can do it!

Audio of Note…

Music featured today is by Josh Garrels. This artist was shared on my Facebook feed yesterday and I gave him a listen. He’s giving out his five complete albums for free with tips that go to support the work of world relief in the Congo. I don’t typically showcase these sort of things on the blog because of reasons. (That is all I’m going to say on the subject right now). But I gave this guy a listen to. Its Alternative genre music (thank goodness, been looking for new Alternative music for such a long time now) and its really rather good. A bit of folk music. Give a couple songs a listen because I’m liking what I’m hearing. This is the kind of music I like sharing…it has a good soul to it.

Cool Videos To Watch…

If your interested in a Let’s Play on Starcraft 2, Jesse Cox is doing a good one on his channel. Just ignore how terrible he is at the game x_x. Still, I’m enjoying it since I couldn’t afford to pay for the expansion myself right now. Seeing the diversity in single player missions and hearing good reviews of the expansion certainly attracts me to play the game. Seems like Blizzard did something right with this game which is a relief as I was wondering if any AAA publisher would do anything right this month.

If LGR can’t even agree with the new SimCity, you know that Maxis done goofed on this game. He’s probably the biggest fan of the SimCity franchise that I know. Ouch.

And until after Finals, I hope you all have an excellent weekend. I’ll be keeping strong…
