My Life Musings…

Hm. Well, this is the first time I really don’t have much to talk about personally. Nothing new is on my mind, school is going and work is going well. So not much to muse over tonight. Maybe Friday.

Tech and Gaming News To Talk About…

The Playstation 4 was announced today and there isn’t much I have to say about it. There was very little actual information released by Sony during the press conference. Which makes me feel justified in having skipped said press conference. There were games talked about and the fact that the PS4 is now basically a PC with 8GB of DDR5 RAM. Other than that? Not much. Hopefully more information will be released in the coming days. I have a little hope that the PS4 being a PC will get rid of terrible console ports but…well….yeah…

I’m also aware of Ubuntu being on tablets soon but really don’t have much to say about it. The proof will be in the pudding so until there is some actual previews on how it performs I really can’t say much. It is a shot from Canonical showing that they are interested in fighting with both Google and Apple in the mobile space. If the sync technology between Desktop and Mobile works as well as they say it does, it has a really good shot at getting some market share.

HTC announced their new flagship phone, the HTC One. Bit of an interesting naming scheme to go from the HTC One X, One X+ and now One. But whatever, this new flagship phone running one of the latest versions of Android is a beauty and comes with a lot of features. The most notable features are a 4.7″ 1080p screen, quad-core processor, light aluminum body, and more. I’m really interested in how the camera and stereo speakers works on this phone. The phone has a 4MP camera but is built to be better at tacking low-light photos with this “Ultrapixel” tech they talked about. Its just a marketing blurb for saying they have a better sensor on the phone now. For HTC, this new flagship phone is rather important for them as they’ve been struggling to compete against the Samsung powerhouse. For the first phone of the year, this phone is a good really good both inside and out. I don’t think that HTC button in the middle of the rest of the menu buttons was strictly necessary though. Branding is branding yes, but functionality should always come first over looks in my opinion. It will be curious to see how Samsung and Apple respond to such a high bar. I don’t know if I want this phone though. I’m going to wait and see what Samsung does this year. Plus, I’m in no hurry to get a new phone right now. I do want to switch to Android sooner or later but I’m still patient at the moment. Somehow, I get the feeling that Apple won’t be able to surpass this phone this year…

Nvidia unleashed the GeForce GTX Titan upon consumers everywhere. This $1,000 card is the most powerful single-core graphics card currently in existence, for consumers anyway. Or so Nvidia says. Its really quite the badass looking card. You can triple-SLI this thing too which just seems insane. $3,000 in graphic processing alone is way too rich for my blood. Anyway, this GPU was originally in the Cray Titan which is a really powerful Supercomputer. It has 2688 CUDA cores which is 75% higher than Nvidia’s previous flagship card, 6GB of RAM installed (good grief, twice the size of my current RAM in the card), and a sleek-looking body. Is the GPU for you? Ahahahahaha no, not unless you’ve got a ton of money just lying around. In which case, donate it to charities. Or to me, I could use it. I would love to get my hands on one of these but I’m still sane enough to realize going broke over it, isn’t worth it ;).

Photos To See…

Cute kitty right here.

Gotta love this view from work! #gorgeous #seattle

A good shot of Seattle, I liked it.

Crysis 3 is making the rounds and if nothing else, its a really good looking game. Great! Its just a pity that EA is behind this game as per usual.

Audio of Note…

A Valley Without Wind 2 OST was released and its a good one to check out:

Lara does a pretty good job on the Temple theme from Zelda 2.

Cool Videos To Watch…

Knytt Underground looks like a pretty interesting 2D platformer game. I doubt I’ll get around to playing it myself, but it might be something you’ll be interested in. The visuals are good looking if nothing else.

I thoroughly enjoyed this video on Dota 2 which features Purge and TotalBiscuit doing a higher level of Dota 2 than I’ve ever seen before. I just really enjoyed this video and found the tactics more interesting than usual today.

Until next time…
