My Life Musings…

As you probably noticed, I tweaked the look of these personal musings tonight. I’m hoping to have a better look to the format in the future, but I need to put time to work on that idea and that is something I lack these days. Ah well, on with this post. Yesterday and today have been off days for…idk…whatever reason it is. I’ve been in this weird kind of funk that isn’t really a funk and yet is. Yeah, don’t ask me to explain that. But today was a real struggle to get through classes. I’m not sure what it was that was bothering me either. But at the end of the day, I had to go to work & class and that’s what I did. Some days of late have been really hard to get up and do what you want. It crossed my head multiple times to just call in sick to work and email the profs that I wasn’t coming in, but I didn’t. I forced myself to get up and go. Again, I’m not ill/depressed or anything, I just felt really off. I’ve managed to shake it off so that allowed me to work on some Geography homework tonight as well this post. Oh right, midterms the next couple of weeks. Yay. I’m not really looking forward to them…but that’s nothing new, I’m not a fan of testing. This weekend I’ll be focusing on Geography studying. So, busy busy busy. That’s my life right now. Hope you guys have a good weekend!

Read an article in the newspaper during dinner tonight. Yeah, I read the newspaper from time-to-time but that’s only because the house I’m living in gets a subscription and its sitting there, so why not. It was talking about this 60 year old guy who was homeless, had memory problems and was a, difficult, individual to work with. Basically, life had given him a really bad hand. He had anger issues and liked to sue the government/businesses for the slightest thing gone wrong. And I was sitting there wondering. Wondering, what can we do for/about people like him? He’s basically leaching off of society because he can’t work. So do we just leave him like that? Do we just say “Well, there’s nothing that can be done because X reason”? I don’t know. It bothered me, but no solution came to mind. No business would hire him and neither would the government. So is that it? Just let him live like that until he eventually dies? It bothered me that people in his situation live out there. It bothers me that they have no hope and nothing to live for other than surviving the next day. It just seems so wrong. I’m just throwing this in because it was on my mind tonight.

Finished up Saints Row: The Third yesterday and that was an enjoyable game. But after I had finished the main campaign, the game suddenly lost its appeal to me. I don’t know, but I kind of realized that the sandbox element had lost its appeal or charm to me, that the game was incomplete for whatever reason. Still, it was fun while I was playing but I’m moving on to another game. What that game might be, I’m not sure at the moment. I tried out Penny Arcade’s On The Rain-Slick of Darkness 3 by Zeboyd Games but found the game extremely dull. I really gave the game a try but the story wasn’t interesting me enough. The combat system was certainly unique from any RPG I had previously played, but it wasn’t enough. When I started thinking to myself “when will this be over” within a couple hours of the game, I decided to end it right there. I think it was intended for Penny Arcade fans than people like me. But whatever the reason might be, I deleted it. A disappointing purchase (though thankfully the game was on a good sale at the time way back when I got it) but that happens occasionally. Nothing I can do about it.

Tech and Gaming News To Talk About…

Something I need to check out whenever I can is this ‘insane’ Torchlight II mod. It adds a new class, monsters and raids to the game, among a ton of other content. You can download the mod for your game right here. This actually makes me more interested in playing the game. Just the fact that there is even more content to explore makes me very curious to what is inside. The game is not currently in my “now playing” queue, but I’m hoping it’ll be there soon. The more insane part about this mod is they are planning on adding even more classes, more raids and even more content overall. Geez, talk about being set on this game for content. Oh and Diablo 3 will never get a mod like this due to the DRM and closed system Blizzard is operating on the game. Isn’t DRM just fantastic? /me ends sarcasm

Well, whoops, that below was not an intended rant but the keyboard got away from me when I was going to write a short bit about EA. Now that I’ve written it, I feel better. So its staying xD. I guess I needed to get this off my chest. It is a rant so keep that in mind when you read the below paragraphs. If your looking for photos, skip on down to them.

Talk about a lack of news this week. That or I’m being really selective, but my memory of the week was just more and more disappointing stuff about EA and everything its planning on publishing in the next couple of months or so. And nothing else. At this point, while its tempting to make posts and talk about what EA has done, I’ve decided I’m done talking about EA in this blog. Except for right now, but I promise this is the last time!!! (maybe). So if you really want to hear me rant on and on about EA, check out my G+ feed as that’s the only place I really plan on beating the dead Necromorph’s corpse at this point. Because its basically the same thing at this point. EA is doing a lot of questionable actions that I can only see as anti-consumer. The DRM, the micro-transactions, all of it. All of it is bad. You want to know what the best part about it is? That EA has convinced itself and is trying to convince us, the consumers, that this is what YOU want. That we WANT micro-transactions. That we WANT to pay $50+ on top of the $60 we already paid for the game. That we WANT to deal with a crappy server for SimCity 5 because we WANT multiplayer. You know, if we WANT this so badly…WHY ARE WE YELLING AT YOU THAT WE DON’T?!?!?!? Can you get it through your thick-as-hell skull that we do NOT want restrictive DRM that will kill the longevity of a game?!? And why do you think that PC gamers want the “same experience” as mobile gamers?! If we wanted the same experience, we would bloody-dang-well play games on mobile devices!!!!! PC gamers are NOT the same as mobile gamers. There are certainly people that play on both platforms. Just like there are PC and Console gamers. That does not mean that PC-gamers, your core audience, want the same experience as mobile gamers. I sure as heck do not want a freemium-laden, scam-rip-off, flat and dimensionless game when I get home and play. I want something that enriches and challenges me. Mobile gaming has consistently failed to provide that kind of entertainment but PC gaming has not. So I have no idea where your getting the idea that people like me want a mobile experience on our PCs. The terrible ports are bad enough so we don’t need you thinking those are brilliant ideas because THEY ARE NOT. It boggles the mind…

That is how much EA ticks me off. That they think they know best. Its kind of amazing that EA is now worse than Activision. I didn’t see that coming. I really did not. Hell, we had the whole Diablo 3 disaster and Activision was a part of that. You would think that EA would have learned from that incident and decided not to repeat that mistake. NOPE! Instead, their going to charge right in and repeat the same mistake that both Ubisoft and Activision did. I just…don’t know anymore. I don’t want EA to fall over and die like THQ did this year. I want EA to learn some sense, change their ways and not use these business practices like they plan to. I liked you once EA. I really did. Now…now I can’t even be associated with you anymore. That depresses and angers me.

Photos To See…

Yeah, I’ll bet it does…

Cute little doggie to look at today.

Audio of Note…

Interesting little song I discovered on SoundCloud today.

This is a pretty cool remix of a Pokemon game I’ve never played so I have no idea how it sounds compared to the original.

Blake apparently made the Medley Orchestra for the Terraria trailer. That’s pretty darn cool, take a listen!

Cool Videos To Watch…

So here’s a cute kitten using the force. This is done by the same guys that had the dueling lightsaber kittens last year and its just so cute.

I’ve been admitting to myself that I like puzzle games more and more lately (I keep playing them so I must enjoy them or I’m a masochist. I’m probably not) so when I see this preview of Antichamber, I am immensely intrigued by it. An exploration/puzzle game that will break and remake your brain but looks fun and intriguing. The graphics are a bit odd but I think I could deal with them. I’m probably going to pick this up this year. Definitely recommend you check the video out on this bizarre puzzle game.

I do hope that you liked this post and until next time…
