Latest Happenings and Musings:
Back to Monday again. This was a pretty good Monday as far as Mondays go. Mostly worked on various stuff and went to work but I’m enjoying that. Just enjoying catching up on projects I’ve had to delay for more days than I care to think about. Sunday was mostly spent on the FTL review (it took a lot longer to do than I had originally planned) and I didn’t do a whole lot afterwards. Walk and such if I remember correctly. I’ve got a fairly busy schedule set out for myself for the next couple of weeks and I’m hoping to keep to it. Unfortunately, I have to wait for my motherboard before I can get to work on studying up Linux and that’ll probably be sometime next week unless I get lucky with UPS. (Sincerely doubt I will). I’m not happy that its going to take that long but I can’t do anything about it. Otherwise, that pretty much sums it up…not much to say :).
Its been a good couple of days for the blog I gotta say. After publishing the FTL: Faster Than Light review, I’ve been on fire with my writing pace. Published my Musings on Greenlight’s 3rd batch of games Greenlit as well as updated my Tower of Light page. If only I could keep this momentum going for the entire month…lets see if I can. I’ll slightly spoil the next major post and say its a game review. When and what I won’t say or I’ll probably jinx myself again. I tend to do that. Hope you guys have been enjoying the content! Its crazy to me that I can deck out these incredibly long posts now and they’re good. Hard to imagine. And they’ve been getting a good amount of feedback which makes it all the more worthwhile. Thanks guys, means a lot. Hope your all having a great December!
Tech and Gaming News To Read:
Netflix signed a licensing agreement with Disney to be an exclusive US subscription service for streaming for “first-run” films beginning 2016. This means any new Theatrical released films that are available at the same time as cable channels like HBO will be available for Netflix as well. In 2013, this same deal for straight to DVD films will be available for Netflix. Yeah, 2016 doesn’t sound that great does it, when its still four years away. But fortunately, many of Disney older films such as Dumbo, the Aristocats, and Pocahontas are available for streaming right now. Which is pretty darn cool. I believe that the amount of Disney films on instant streaming right now numbers higher than when Netflix had a deal with Starz. I could be wrong though but its still an impressive collection for Netflix considering that Disney is very…protective…of their films. The main reason its going to be 4 more years for the new stuff is because Starz still has licensing for Disney films until 2015 where they will presumable lose said licensing. Its a good move for Netflix considering how rough it has been for them to get new content on the service and how difficult a year it has been for them as well. Hopefully this is a sign that things are turning around for them. Just don’t raise your rates Netflix…
Oh Instagram. Instagram. Instagram. You were this close. THIS CLOSE to being back on my good side. Then you pull something like this. Instagram is officially killing support of Twitter cards. Basically, Twitter cards allow you to preview content on Twitter without having to leave the website. This is particularly handy for photos and videos I have go through my stream daily and not having to visit the Instagram website everytime I see a photo is rather nice. Instagram said that they believed their website was the best way to view photos. Which leads many, including myself, to believe that Instagram wants to start using advertising methods on the website in order to make revenue off of the service. I guess Facebook has to start figuring out how to make money back on their $1 billion purchase. It just adds annoyance and its not a pro-consumer move by the photo service. I’ve had multiple issues with Instagram over the past several months and this is leading me to keep Instagram at an arms length. I primarily use it when I want to share photos on both Twitter and Facebook quickly and at this point…I’m looking to replace the service sooner or later. Heck, something with Google+ sharing as well would be nice. What will that app will be? I’m not sure at this point. Since Google+ sharing access is still an invite-only deal atm.
Instagram also updated their iOS app to 3.2. This update adds a redesigned camera UI (which lags on my iPhone 4, not impressed), a new filter named “Willow” which I’m not much of a fan of right now, but maybe it’ll grow on me and Foursquare integration. There were a few other fixes and updates to the app as well. This is one update I haven’t been able to spend a lot of time with yet but I managed to play around with it earlier. Not impressed that the new UI lags my phone but hopefully they sped up the rest of the app so that I don’t get too annoyed. Between this update, Twitter’s new filters added to the Twitter mobile apps and Google+’s acquisition of Snapseed, the war is on to get the most photographers on the preferred social network. Whether this is good or bad for us consumers is hard to say at this point. But it’ll be interesting to see how it all shapes out in the coming months.
Audio of Note:
Some Fallout 3 inspired music…
Enjoyed this OCRemix of Skyward Sword, “Hylia’s Fear”.
Syntetic Christmas’ Kirby – Monochrome’s Face song.
Photos To See:
Cool shot of the Seattle Space Needle.
The tree that was put up in the place I’m living in.
Cat looks slightly cranky.
I thought this was a pretty good photo.
Interesting Videos To Watch:
Enjoyed this review of Far Cry 3 by LGR. If this game wasn’t published by Ubisoft, I have little doubt I would have picked it up by now. Alas…
Moonshine Fox’s Fortress is still having a lot of meltdown issues in this episode. His dwarves aren’t very happy…
I think its been mentioned before in the blog that SEGA is on my radar for what seems to be illegal takedowns of YouTube videos & channels. Here’s an extensive history of the Shining Force, Sega VS the Internet. We need to stop Sega cold before this gets out of hands. I’m currently waiting for Sega to officially respond before I get my blogging guns rotating on this issue. Granted, that may very well be a long wait…
Hope you enjoyed this post and until next time…
