My Latest Musings:

Welcome back to another personal musing of my mind today. My cold is still there but in its death throes. It will probably be a couple more days of recovery before its fully gone at this point. I’m hoping my voice is back to full strength by tomorrow, but its looking fairly iffy at this point. I don’t really want to delay my recording though… Not much I want to talk about today, I didn’t do a whole heck of a lot, other than finding out what book prices are for my next college term and whether they need an online code. (1 does grrr). Online codes irritate me. So yeah. Exciting day.

Despite the smoothness of yesterday’s AIW session, today’s was…not quite so smooth. Looks like an ISP was screwing one of the connection’s of one person so we had to drop the game for tomorrow. So instead I joined my not-so-regular weekly L4D2 group in killing hordes of zombies. I was surprisingly on fire and kicking butt for not having played the game for several weeks. Our PVP team won on Cold Stream. We then did this weird mode that I can never remember. But you have unlimited ammo and everything hurts a lot harder.

News of Relevance:

Kindle Fire HD takes on the iPad with three new models. Two 8.9″ models (one without 4G) and a 7 inch model. While the hardware is pretty impressive, I wish Amazon had pushed the screen size to 9.7″ or 10″. Granted, I still wouldn’t buy these tablets because they’re designed to sell the “Amazon experience” and that’s not very useful to me. If I went Android, I think I’d go Samsung or something a little more open. Anyway, its a pretty impressive showing for Amazon so we’ll have to see if these put a dent in the iPad’s complete dominance. Dual-stereo speakers, 1080HD, and 1.5GHz Dual-core CPUs is very nice. I am also impressed with how cheap the 4G service is for a year. $50 compared to $230? Heck yeah I’d love that. Though I find the lack of battery life stats a little concerning. Time will tell on how well these sell. Also, the new Kindle e-readers are pretty neat too. They come with a backlight and better text reading as far as I can tell.

The Game Music Bundle is back with a great batch of 12+ albums from iOS games this time around and an i in its name. I’ve listened to a couple so far and they are great. I’ll admit, I was pretty skeptical when I saw them doing an iOS bundle of albums because I don’t really associate good music with iOS games. That’s a discussion for another time, but suffice it to say, there are some great OST albums to grab. This is a pretty limited time offer too, only 7 days and counting to pick these up for a minimum of $1 to $10 for all albums. I have yet to regret getting any of these collections thus far.

So I’ve started following XCOM: Enemy Unknown with greater interest here lately. The pre-order just went up on Steam today (which I sadly cannot touch :() but it pissed off a few people. Despite the devs saying that if you pre-ordered the game you would get this bonus, you instead had to get X amount of people to pre-order the game in order to get your pre-order bonus. This is a slap in the face to Steam players because if you buy the game anywhere else, you get that pre-order bonus automatically, no work involved. This move feels like 2K forcing us to do their advertising for them and its just really incredibly annoying for the publisher to pull moves like this. Its why I don’t often pre-order games anymore, to discourage this type of pre-order BS that tends to go on these days. That said, the devs later said that they would ensure that every Steam buyer would get the first pre-order bonus no matter what happened. So good of them to keep their word. I just wish this hadn’t been an issue in the first place and that publishers used common sense and courtesy. But I guess that is asking too much… I am not going to lie, the fact that I predicted there being publisher BS with this game and then being proven right really ticks me off. It really makes me question bothering with AAA publishers anymore. Still, hopefully the game is good. I wish I could get it, but that won’t be for a long while.

I enjoyed phreakindee’s review of the Supernatural expansion pack for the Sims 3. I have not personally played any of the Sims games either, that was surprising.

Here’s a cool video of Scout VS Witch: a tale of boy meets ghoul. I am rather impressed by it. Good job!

Until next time…
